Offering Making “Majajahitan”

Offerings (Banten) in Balinese culture are an essential part of Hindu rituals and are usually a women’s activity. Canang sari is one of the daily offerings made by Balinese Hindus to thank Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa (the Supreme God) for the peace and prosperity given to the world. It is placed in the Balinese temples (pura), on small shrines (pelinggih) family sanctuaries, and on the ground or as a part of a larger offering. The word canang sari is derived from the Balinese words sari (essence) and canang (a small palm-leaf tray). It is the simplest daily household offering. The time and effort spent to prepare these beautiful offerings are part of the contribution to the ritual.
You will learn the techniques of Majajahitan = how to cut and sew the Busung (coconut leaves) with small bamboo sticks (semat) to create gorgeous natural containers then Metanding = how to make beautiful arrangements of fruit, flowers, rice, and betel leaves thus creating a gorgeous banten, to be presented to the Gods as a gift.
